Welcome to my swim blog. It's all about my favorite past time and passion...swimming in the ocean, primarily in La Jolla, California, but also wherever the tides take me. I enjoy playing with and watching all marine critters: fish, birds, sea lions and even sharks. The ocean is my home. Welcome to my home!

Double Swim Day...There's A First!

(this was just like it appeared this week)
I knew this morning was coming; I'd planned for it.  Set out my swim gear, snacks and water the night before and set my alarm clock; I even was mentally prepared for it...it being a double swim (with a meeting of the LJCSC board in between).  Mind you it's not like I'm pulling gargantuan mileage while training for the English Channel or anything.  I merely want to attain my personal goal of 10mi per week during the Winter months for the Big Chill.  Because the meeting was planned for 10:30, I thought I'd do a quick mile prior, eat breakfast, then do another 1-1.5mi after.  It's been absolutely gorgeous lately for January.  We've had air temps in the 70's, while the water remains a brisk 54-56F and the dolphin have been spotted daily (today was no exception).  Earlier this week, while swimming from the shores toward the Cove, a pair of dolphin (not unlike the photo) appeared between me and a couple of kayakers, coming up and touching me and circling back and doing it again!  I've learned to watch for bait fish...where they are, you'll find dolphin not far behind.  Friday, Janie, Ruth and I had another encounter near the 'A' buoy.  But today, the line of bait, dolphin in hot pursuit, was only visible with binoculars, but audible underwater.  It was a cacophony of sonar squeaks, clicks and song like nothing I've heard.  After two swims (with two Jacuzzis I might add), I've had my fill for the day, endorphins crankin', body resting peacefully, I know there's more to experience tomorrow and I can't wait.
1.0mi/1.25mi = 2.25mi
