Welcome to my swim blog. It's all about my favorite past time and passion...swimming in the ocean, primarily in La Jolla, California, but also wherever the tides take me. I enjoy playing with and watching all marine critters: fish, birds, sea lions and even sharks. The ocean is my home. Welcome to my home!

Spouts And Tails

photo by San Diego Bike and Kayak Tours
Oh Happy Day!  Just after 9am this morning, a small group of us noticed a whale spout near the A buoy in the Cove!  Hooting and hollering, we asked LG Mike for confirmation and sure enough...thar she blows again!  Janet and the others started on their swim, while I fiddled with my gear.  I figured she'd probably move out of the area soon, so no rush.  Mike mentioned some dolphin had also been seen off Alligator Head.

The morning was just beautiful if not a bit chilly.  I'll bet the water temp was warmer than the air today.  Not much surf to speak of, but a few nice swells every once in a while.  In honor of February, I donned my hot pink suit...Think Pink (matches my cheeks lately).

The plan today was a convoluted double circle of the buoys.  The surge and the swells made it fun.  Off toward the A to the 1/4, A, B...climb up on the B looking for the whale.  And after about 3-5min found her over near Boomers but out just a bit and appearing to just hang out there.  Cold was setting in, but I must say, the water sure felt warmer than it has in a long while.  I swam over to the A again and told Janet to let the guards know I was going to do another loop.  Boucle des bouées deux = 2.0 miles.  No more dolphin and no more whale, but no matter...a most beautiful day any which way.
