Welcome to my swim blog. It's all about my favorite past time and passion...swimming in the ocean, primarily in La Jolla, California, but also wherever the tides take me. I enjoy playing with and watching all marine critters: fish, birds, sea lions and even sharks. The ocean is my home. Welcome to my home!

Stiff, Frothy White Peaks...And I'm Not Talkin Meringue!

Santa Ana Winds again.  Victory at Sea...the reprisal!  This time cccccoldder.  Like 49F (air) colder!  The water actually felt warm in comparison.  The cross-off wind was affecting every aspect of every thing.  A tree had fallen on 3 cars up on/near Girard, high winds affecting driving conditions, palm fronds all over the place, the ocean was rockin and rollin.  I was half decided that I wouldn't go out and just call it a day.  The white caps looked so intimidating.  I saw Dan and he believed I could do it...it would be hard going but a fast return trip if I went to the Tower.  So, off I went and before I knew it, my stroke changed, digging in to accommodate the shear enormous chop, strong currents and swells pushing and pulling me to and fro, undulating and unwavering, all the way across.  There was more vertical mileage gained than anything resembling horizontal!  I thought I was never going to get there, but suddenly I was in the middle of the floating, wet-suited line up right in front of the Tower.  Shoot, it must have taken me 45min just to get across!

Coming back was just as Dan had said...fffast.  It felt effortless.  Within nearly 15min, I was at the 'A' buoy (and could have easily been taken out further).  Negotiating the Cove was nerve racking.  I didn't want to get swept into the rocks, which would have been all too easy today.  Thankfully, no waves to contend with.

It was warmer in the water than out.  I didn't even think about my jacket, shoes or anything except getting over to the Jacuzzi.  *Thanks Mike for getting my jacket for me.  My hot tea never tasted so good!  Later, I saw whale out by the 'B' buoy heading toward Blacks.
