Welcome to my swim blog. It's all about my favorite past time and passion...swimming in the ocean, primarily in La Jolla, California, but also wherever the tides take me. I enjoy playing with and watching all marine critters: fish, birds, sea lions and even sharks. The ocean is my home. Welcome to my home!

A Moonlight Swim

According to a few surf reports, Sunday promises to be nearly ideal for a little race in Encinitas.  The Moonlight Beach 1 Mile Open Water Swim begins at 8:30am...High tide, glassy and ~61F, S winds less than 5mph, waves under 1.5 ft from the South at 14 seconds.  Weather is due to be rather cloudy and misty.

I've not raced in nearly 2yrs and I'm rather nervous.  A time that's less than spectacular, is expected, but I do hope that I don't make a total fool of myself...completely anyway.

NOT HOW IT LOOKED WHEN I GOT THERE!

Yeah...what happened to the glassy conditions and 1.5 ft waves and <5mph winds????  Huh???  Swimmers were being plucked out of the sea by lifeguards right and left!

Our motley crew of mostly Oak Streakers: Patsee, Lynn, Mike, and others (I did run into John and a couple of others from LJ)

It was a tough start with 3-4 ft waves, south swell, strong northbound current and >10mph onshore winds!  The water was nice at around 63F and very clear dusty turquoise color...note: no kelp, no sea lion poop, no stinky bird smell, no rocks!!
