Okay...so I'm having my cake and eating it too...every time I go out with a friend for my birthday.

| Bailey's Chocolate Cake from Top of the Cove |
Normally, I'd be worried, but today I managed to swim a three-miler (without stopping) to the Scripps Pier and back to the Cove, and so I'm continuing to work off the for mentioned BD cake.
It's funny, this morning I didn't want to get out of bed; had a crumby night's sleep, and after hearing the SD Surf and Beach Report exclaim a 54F degree water temp, was content to stay under the covers. But the sun was shining, no clouds to be found and the ocean was calm, so I trekked out to do my aqua therapy. I ran into Hovik, Richard and Chris going for their dip to Marine Room and got in just after they did, but something happened on the way to the 1/4 mile buoy...I felt compelled to just keep going. Half way to the Tower at the Shores, I remember saying to myself "Self. Today's the day...just go the distance." So, Instead of touching down at the Shores, I kept going all the way to the Scripps Pier. Along the way, a family of 3 dolphin were playing around me, under me, blowing bubbles and turning this way and that...such bliss...so blessed by their presence.
On the way back, they were in the same place and swam with me a bit. The water was somewhere between 54 and 57F. There were some co-co-cold spots and some lovely warm places (and no, I didn't create them). A nice current helped me get back in a decent time...1:45-ish (with fins). I'm still recovering. I have to remind myself of that from time to time. When it gets warmer, I'll try it sans fins. Still trying to decide if I should go for the Gator...but for now, I'm content listening to Joe Bonamassa's awesome blues.

Congrats on the 3-miler! Well done you!
