Welcome to my swim blog. It's all about my favorite past time and passion...swimming in the ocean, primarily in La Jolla, California, but also wherever the tides take me. I enjoy playing with and watching all marine critters: fish, birds, sea lions and even sharks. The ocean is my home. Welcome to my home!

The Flood!

Yesterday, there was a flood.  Not as in Japan (or even tsunami proportions).  No.  In my garage.  Seems the sewer line decided to have a tryst with some tree roots...the hussy!  The hint?  After running the garbage disposal, the house moaned.  A loud, long, low, guttural moan...almost primal.  Scary.  Like run outside scary.  Running downstairs, I opened the garage door and whoosh...yep, whoosh!  TG for (our long term relationship with) Ideal Plumbing.  They saved the day...and under $200.  Now for the clean-up.  We are in the process of disinfecting everything from towels to floors, boxes and tools...a lot will just have to be turfed out.

I look for any excuse to go swim (read: get out of cleaning the garage).  Today's surf advisory didn't matter at the time...until I got there!  The guards were chatting about who knows what, but the banter suggested their response to tourists or others wanting to swim with the present surf conditions.  "What's this?  A whole pocket full of NO!"  LOL

56-58F, 4-8ft WNW, low/neg tide of 0.5ft, mod surge, 5-10mph cross-on winds

The more I listened, the better a Marine Room launch sounded.  So with time ticking, I sped off to my launch site...nice long gentle sloping beach (insert smile).  There were more kayakers for a Tuesday than I've ever seen...and then I saw why.  A whole pod of dolphin!  They hung around for quite a while.  I did my swim and they were still there when I got back!  Finished by doing a little body surfing and then racing back to the AC for what seemed to me as the fastest Jacuzzi/Shower/Shave and Shine ever witnessed!

More big surf is forecast...but so is rain...and so is the
La Jolla Cove Swim Club Saint Patrick's Swim
we'll see which of the elements and events transpire...
