It used to be that very few swimmers ever saw the elusive turtle in La Jolla...so much so that either their words or sanity were questioned! Today, Dana and Janie (and others) joined the growing numbers to see them. I say them because there must be more down there than we know (with varying reports of location and size).
I've seen turtles on 3 occasions now and no two were alike...the one (my 1st) near the 1/4 mile buoy was smallisih; the 2nd, last year, was huge and on the surface just past the 1/2 mile buoy; and the 3rd, at the Marine Room in about 5ft of water was the size of a small coffee table and had algae on his back...and allowed us to pet him! Dana's turtle today was described like my third one, but nearer the 1/4 buoy.
This video was taken this Summer by Bob West's nephew and is a beautiful piece...enjoy
