The town of Del Mar has been hosting the Powerhouse swim for many years and yet this was the 1st year I had ever heard of it! Thank you Gracie! What a nice swim...I love Del Mar. Clean water, cool waves and located at a stretch of grassy park next to the Poseidon and Jake's Restaurants. Each swimmer/paddler got a warm, cozy sweatshirt en lieu of the usual white t-shirts given at most events.
This event is one mile for us swimmers. We walked down approx 3/4 of a mile to the start, loaded our gear in the back of a lifeguard truck (they delivered it to the finish line), and off we went in the 63F clean water, through the waves and South back to the Powerhouse.
The organizers really put out a spread of burgers, deli sandwiches, drinks and power bars while we awaited the awards and drawing of raffle tickets for the mound of donated gifts.
I didn't recognize many people here which is very strange. My time for the mile was 00:31:03 and the fastest since my injury and subsequent surgery last year...not bad.
