"Met with the team Monday night at the San Pedro Brewing Company for food, friends and laughs. Drew straws for relay position.
Loaded up on the Outrider for the trip over to the island. Wind was picking up… not a good sign.
One swimmer starting to get sick less than 30 min. from dock.
Swells and surface chop getting bigger along the way.
First swimmer in at about 11:42. Others soon hanging over the side chumming between what would become constant 4-5’+ swells.
First kayaker gets sick while on duty and is pulled after 5hrs.
Second kayaker gets in, gets flipped twice by huge swells and it’s “game over” for kayaking. Forged ahead without.
Galley is crowded with sick, sleepy swimmers because nobody wants to go below.
EACH sick swimmer heroically gets in to swim their shift when it’s their turn, some puking as they swim.
Despite it all, the team finishes in approx. 11 hours and 30 min.
Two swear they’ll never get on a boat again!
