Welcome to my swim blog. It's all about my favorite past time and passion...swimming in the ocean, primarily in La Jolla, California, but also wherever the tides take me. I enjoy playing with and watching all marine critters: fish, birds, sea lions and even sharks. The ocean is my home. Welcome to my home!

La Jolla Rough Water Swim - 2008

Center of Foto in White Cap/Blue Suit
Well, my heart started to race the morning of the check-in.  I guess, subconsciously, I had put so much importance on this race that the anticipation was getting the best of me.  26 yr hiatus is a long time between races!  I decided to get a massage the day before and it was a smart move.  It really helped calm my nerves…that and finding an absolutely darling sun dress for $18!!  I checked into my hotel and took a walk down to the beach.   Alan and I found a great Italian restaurant called La Dolce Vita.  Alan showed up 15min early!!!  What’s up with that?  He’s usually late!  We both had Lobster-stuffed Ravioli and salad and Calamari but no desert or drinkies the night before a race.  Met up with Ann Kyle-Yerkes just prior to the race.  I’m glad she was there to talk to.  Alan took some photos of the race and me. The race start was nuts and this one gal was swimming on top of me or into me the whole 1st leg of the race and there was another one coming in to the finish!  The water was about 68F and not clear, but the sun was bright, hot and humid. Saw Carol LaBeau register for the Gatorman race.  I finished in 31:48, which was 32nd out of 65 in my age group.  I think I could have swam harder.  I tried to conserve too much energy in the beginning.  Alan and I hung out to watch the men swim and then went back to the hotel to shower and change.  We lay about for the afternoon and went to dinner, a long walk and then hung out some more.  Truly relaxing.

I Survived (after 26yr hiatus)!
