Welcome to my swim blog. It's all about my favorite past time and passion...swimming in the ocean, primarily in La Jolla, California, but also wherever the tides take me. I enjoy playing with and watching all marine critters: fish, birds, sea lions and even sharks. The ocean is my home. Welcome to my home!

Tribute to Fran Crippen (RIP)

This morning I planned to pay tribute to an OW Swimmer that passed from this earth last weekend at the age of 26...Fran Crippen. He was an amazing person and athlete; his loss is felt by many the world over. To read more, click here. This morning at 9am EDT (6am to you and me) swimmers and others were encouraged to place flowers and petals in their closest body of water, say a prayer, and remember the young man. Of course I chose the Cove. In 2007, I watched his winning of the Masters division of the LJ Rough Water mile in 18 minutes and change! That day, I was impressed by his athleticism, sportsmanship and humility. I have 3 bushes of Paradise roses in my front yard and felt it a fitting choice for my tribute to him. At the Cove, there were a few others with a similar mission. Acknowledging each other in silence, the petals and flowers were scattered as a sliver of light fell on the water and a light rain began to fall like soft tears. Rest In Peace Fran.
